Farouk Kibet, Wetang’ula lead Ruto 2-tam campaign in mega Endebes empowerment drive
Endebess Constituency in Trans Nzoia County came to a standstill at the weekend as President William Ruto’s close ally, Farouk Kibet, joined National Assembly Speaker Hon. Dr. Moses Wetang’ula for a massive Boda Boda Empowerment Drive in Matumbei Ward.
The event, hosted by Endebess MP Dr. Robert Pukose, following his invitation to the two leaders, brought together hundreds of boda boda riders, youth and women groups, in what leaders described as a practical model of Bottom-Up Economic Transformation.
The Boda Boda sector remains one of the key drivers of Kenya’s transport industry. It plays a vital role in supporting livelihoods, connecting communities, and facilitating local commerce across rural Kenya. In Trans Nzoia, popularly known as Kenya’s food basket, boda bodas are the lifeline that moves farm produce, students, patients, and traders.
“Empowering our riders is therefore an investment in families, businesses, and the wider economy,” the leaders said in a joint message.
Farouk Kibet, who is President Ruto’s long-time aide and is increasingly becoming a central figure in grassroots empowerment programs across the country, said the Kenya Kwanza government is deliberate about putting money in the pockets of hustlers.
He noted that boda boda riders, mama mboga, and small traders were the backbone of Ruto’s campaign and must remain at the centre of government programs.
Speaker Wetang’ula, on his part, praised MP Pukose for prioritizing his people, saying real leadership is about uplifting the ordinary mwananchi. He said Parliament will continue to champion laws that protect and support the boda boda sector, including affordable credit, training, and insurance.
MP Dr. Pukose said the empowerment was not just about motorcycles but about dignity, economic freedom, and giving youth alternatives to crime and joblessness.
The colorful event brought together a host of leaders including Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Hon. Lilian Siyoi, MPs Hon. Bisau Kakai (Kiminini), Hon. Innocent Mugabe (Likuyani), Hon. David Ndakwa, South Mugirango MP Hon. Silvanus Osoro, Sirisia MP Hon. John Waluke’s ally Hon. Martin Pepela, former Health Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Susan Nakhumicha, and several aspirants and local leaders.
The leaders said they will continue to champion economic empowerment, inclusive development and opportunities for all Kenyans, regardless of political affiliation.
Residents of Matumbei, who turned out in large numbers, lauded the initiative, saying it had injected new energy into the local economy. Many riders said they can now work with dignity and support their families.
With 2027 politics already taking shape, analysts say such empowerment drives by Farouk Kibet and Speaker Wetang’ula are cementing Kenya Kwanza’s base in the vote-rich Western region, while directly addressing the youth unemployment question.
