John Wanyama honours promise, delivers scones, bread to schools for learners

The Malava parliamentary hopeful for 2027 has kept his earlier pledge of supplying confectionaries to schools within the constituency.

The scribe, who has announced his intentions to contest for the Malava Constituency legislative seat in the coming general polls, launched his cakes and scones for schools initiative over the weekend where over 22,000 learners benefited from the goodies.

This has sparked heated debate as far as Malava politics is concerned, with the majority of electorates, especially the young turks, embracing his new and impressive campaign strategy that has captured the hearts of many.

Broadcast journalist John Wanyama confirmed that the drive was purely aimed at ensuring that learners stay in school and also lure those not yet in school to enrol.

The move, which has been lauded by many parents and learners too for being one of its kind ever to be witnessed in the education sector within the constituency, has been embraced by schools, with many now calling to be reached out to with the noble gesture.

The constituency, which has 115 primary schools, is gearing towards receiving the goodies from the aspirant, who has surprisingly overturned the political narrative of Malava by bringing onboard new campaign tactics that also address giving back to the community.

During the much-hyped exercise, 22 schools were targeted, with at least 22,000 learners enjoying a bite of tasty cakes.

Among those institutions that were reached out to include Namanja, Namushiya, Shandichie, Lunyu, Namatala, Ikoli, Lugusi, Mukonje, Malava, Shirugu, Samitsi, Musali, and Lunyinya Primary Schools.

Most of our school-going pupils fail to have a solid breakfast back at home, jeopardising their ability to concentrate in class and, in the long run, they drop out of school due to hunger as they opt to start fending for themselves.

The programme is aimed at motivating learners and boosting school attendance across Malava.

The broadcaster observed that lack of proper breakfast has been the root cause of poor performance for many learners and has affected the future of many who would otherwise be bright students.

“I underwent such trauma while back in school and I know the ripple effect it can have on one’s learning ability and that is why I’m taking education matters within the constituency seriously by encouraging learners to take their education seriously, and through such motivation we will be able to secure their future.

While speaking to the press during the exercise, Wanyama stated that he stands for development, empowerment, and progress, with his core focus being to empower youth, women, and men, connect young people to job opportunities, and uplift communities through development, including giving back to the community.

He called on the electorate to embrace and promote peaceful politics as the constituency and country at large prepare for the much-anticipated 2027 polls.

“We reject divisive and unpeaceful politics. Malava needs leaders who unite, empower, and deliver. We are peaceful. We are focused. We are ready,” he said.
