Lusaka slams Bungoma Senator, reveals why Wakoli unfit to hold Senate seat
Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has urged residents to elect a Senator who understands and faithfully executes the constitutional responsibilities of the office, instead of one who assumes the roles of a Member of the County Assembly (MCA).
He said the border county needs objective oversight and strong representation in the Senate rather than politics driven by personal interests.
Lusaka, a former Speaker of the Senate, said the Senate has a clearly defined constitutional mandate that should not be confused with the responsibilities assigned to Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
According to him, the county deserves a Senator who can effectively protect Bungoma’s interests at the national level through legislation, oversight and representation, instead of engaging in roles that fall under county assemblies.
“Bungoma deserves a Senator who understands the constitutional role of the office and is committed to providing objective oversight while championing the county’s interests in the Senate,” Lusaka said.
Lusaka was directly referring to Senator Wakoli Simiyu who has been on an offensive against the governor.
The Governor stressed that oversight should be exercised independently, professionally and without political prejudice, adding that leaders must remain faithful to the responsibilities entrusted to them by the Constitution.
Though without mentioning any individual, Lusaka cautioned residents against what he described as politically motivated campaigns disguised as oversight, warning that such tactics were aimed at influencing public opinion ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“Residents should not be misled by political gimmicks masquerading as accountability. Bungoma deserves sober, objective oversight that serves the public interest rather than individual political ambitions,” he said.
Lusaka also welcomed President William Ruto’s newly unveiled welfare package for chiefs and assistant chiefs, describing it as a major step towards strengthening the country’s grassroots administrative system.
The package includes the promotion of all trained chiefs and assistant chiefs by one job group, the distribution of digital tablets to improve service delivery, the procurement of more than 3,000 vehicles to enhance mobility, and specialised induction and paralegal training.
He challenged the administrators to use the improved working tools and enhanced welfare to accelerate the implementation of government programmes and improve service delivery at the grassroots.
The Governor further highlighted his administration’s development record, citing the completion of the Naitiri–Brigadier Road among key infrastructure projects that have improved transport, enhanced connectivity and stimulated economic activity across Bungoma County.
Lusaka also used the occasion to rally support for President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.
Speaking in his capacity as the President’s Western Kenya re-election coordinator, he said continuity in leadership would ensure ongoing development programmes are completed while attracting more investment and opportunities to the region.
He urged residents to remain united behind the government’s development agenda, saying sustained political stability would enable Bungoma and the wider Western Kenya region to reap greater socio-economic benefits in the years ahead.
