“Use funds prudently,” Ndakwa urges principals as he issues KSh46.9M bursary to Malava learners
Principals of secondary schools in Malava Constituency in Kakamega County have been asked to utilize well public funds send to their institutions so that it serves the intended purpose.
And as area Member of Parliament David Ndakwa warned against the misappropriation of public money, he said those found to be inculcating the vice will not be tolerated and shall be prosecuted.
He called on the institutions management to ensure transparency and accountabilty in the utilization of public money stating he will not tolerate it’s pilferage.
The legislator said this on Friday at the constituency office in Malava Town when he presided over the disbursement of Shs 46, 567, 000 busrary funds to students in secondary schools and tertiary learning institutions who come from the area.
Present during the occasion was Fund Manager MacLevis Echwa, Kakamega East Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Peter Majiwa, area Director of Education Rose Chisumi, The Shamberere National Polytechnic Principal Elisha Nyamu and a host of Kakamega County Members of the County Assembly from the constituency.
The legislator said the funds were a financial assistance to needy students from the area stating it would ensure they are not left behind in matters education.

He revealed that all those people who applied for the money have benefited.
Ndakwa regretted the delay in the disbursement of the money to beneficiaries a thing he attributed to a collapsed system at the constituency office and lack of oversight due the demise of former Member of Parliament Moses Malulu Injendi early last year.
“I am aware the delay of bursary funds caused anxiety amongst parents and uncertainty amongst students. The previous Fund Manager had prioritized development projects at the expense of education,” said Ndakwa.
He added: ” As a new MP I was forced to undertake some reforms, restructuring the Fund management to ensure their was accountability, funds are properly planned and well protected.”
A total of Shs 29, 981, 000 will be disbursed to secondary schools targeting to benefit 8, 566 students while Shs 15, 000, 000 will go to tertiary institutions and will benefit 3, 100 students. 181 students with special needs who applied for the money got Shs 1, 086, 000.
