Nabwera, Muhanda tear into Barasa over Sifuna feud

Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera and Kakamega County Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda have called out Governor Fernandes Barasa for allegedly allowing himself to be used to attack Edwin Sifuna amid the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party wrangles.

The two legislators said other party members from the western region have remained silent on the matter, but Governor Barasa is busy working with other parties to direct political jabs at his own colleagues.

Speaking in Likuyani Sub-county during the issuance of over 100 water tanks to schools across the twelve Kakamega sub-counties, the two legislators said it was high time for Barasa to work for the people rather than allow others to use him to ruin his own.

According to Nabwera and Muhanda, Governor Fernandes Barasa has done nothing tangible for the people of Kakamega and is instead busy attending meetings in Nairobi that demean his colleagues.

“He has left his work as the county boss and is busy demeaning his own brother. That is not fair, and he must change,” Nabwera said.

The two Members of Parliament revealed that they have put in place a mechanism they will use to remove Barasa from power in the 2027 General Election.

Nabwera said Muhanda is the only hope to ensure Barasa serves only one term and that Kakamega residents receive proper service delivery. However, Muhanda urged the county government to respect former governor Wycliffe Oparanya for the work he did for the people.

Muhanda added that the current governor, Fernandes Barasa, has recruited and equipped goons and bloggers to demean Oparanya, which she said disrespects the work he did while in office.

The lawmaker said Oparanya listened to the people and worked for them, unlike Barasa, who she claimed has invested in goons and online bloggers to attack his critics.

“Barasa has invested in goons and bloggers who demean Oparanya and other leaders rather than working for the electorate. I will send him home in 2027 so that Kakamega residents benefit from their taxes,” Muhanda said.

Meanwhile, the duo declared their support for President William Ruto and asked residents to back him in the next election. They said he has worked tirelessly to ensure the western region has passable roads and improved facilities, including the Matunda–Brigadia road, which has been awarded to a contractor and is set for rehabilitation.

“In 2027, let us support President William Ruto for his second term because we have seen his work. Our embattled Matunda–Brigadia road now has a contractor, and works will begin soon,” the MPs said.
