Sifuna, Babu rescue two goons clobbered to near death for disrupting Kakamega rally

A suspected goon and an alleged former police officer were beaten to near death during the Linda Mwananchi rally at Amalemba Grounds in Kakamega.

The unknown goon found himself in trouble after throwing a tear gas canister towards the stage, disrupting Edwin Sifuna’s speech.

However, the crowd descended on him, beating him thoroughly until he was rescued by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Sifuna himself.

A section of Sifuna’s supporters alleged that the person is known and works with the Kakamega County Government.

“Huyo mwenye alirusha teargas anakuwanga kwa county (the one who threw teargas works at the County),” they alleged.

The drama did not end with one person; a middle-aged man suspected to be a former police officer was also beaten badly.

The alleged former police officer was found with handcuffs and a pistol.

This prompted residents to destroy a house where the alleged officer was hiding, leading to losses.

The crowd surrounded the house, forcing the owner to release him to them.

“He was hiding in one of the houses here; we found him with handcuffs and a pistol, so we don’t know his motive,” a resident said.

This comes after residents vowed to protect the Linda Mwananchi brigade, warning police officers not to be seen in the area.

Yesterday, authorities led by Western Region Police Commander Issa Mahmud said no one had informed them about the rally.

The commander added that he was ready to provide security if notified within the required time.
