David Wamatsi appointed NBA boss

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has appointed Mr. David Wamatsi Omusotsi as the chairperson of the National Biosafety Authority Board of Directors.

Wamatsi will serve for a period of 3 years with effect from February 6, 2026.

“In Exercise of powers conferred by section 6(1)(a) of the Biosafety Act, the cabinet Secretary appoints David Wamatsi Omusotsi to be a non-executive chairperson of the Board of Directors for a period of (3) years,” said Ogamba in a gazette notice dated February 6, 2026.

He replaces Prof. Jenesio Kinyamario who died last month.

Previously, Wamatsi has served as the Chairman, Kenya Utalii College Council.

He has also been active in public governance, policy advocacy, and promoting the tourism and hospitality sector, including promoting the Kenya Utalii College Kisumu campus.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSC) in Biochemistry from Kenyatta University.

Also, he formerly aspired to be he Member of Parliament for Mumias East (2022) besides having been involved in political leadership within the region.

Businesswise, he has interests in farming, imports and exports, construction, and banking.

The National Biosafety Authority (NBA) is a State Corporation established under the Biosafety Act, Cap 320 of the Laws of Kenya with the mandate to: exercise general supervision and control over the transfer, handling and use of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) with a view to ensuring safety of human and animal health and provision of adequate protection of the environment. “
