Harambee Stas Defender Collins Sichenje Set for Big European Club Move

Harambee Stars centre-back Collins Sichenje is on the brink of completing a high-profile transfer to English Championship side Charlton Athletic, in what would be one of the most significant moves by a Kenyan defender in recent years.

The 22-year-old, who currently plies his trade with Serbian top-flight club FK Vojvodina, has attracted strong interest from Charlton as the Addicks look to bolster their defensive ranks ahead of the 2026/27 Championship campaign.

The deal, reported to be worth around KSh 291,555,000, also includes a 20 per cent sell-on clause, meaning Vojvodina will benefit financially from any future move involving the Kenyan international.

Sichenje’s rise has been steady but impressive. Born in Butere, Kenya, he began his professional career with AFC Leopards before moving to Europe with Swedish side AIK in 2022.

After loan spells in Finland with KuPS and in Serbia with Vojvodina, the Serbian club made his move permanent in 2024 following a strong start in the SuperLiga.

Standing at 1.89 metres, Sichenje has developed a reputation as a physically commanding and composed centre-back.

His performances in Serbia have seen him become a regular starter for Vojvodina and a key figure in their backline. His displays have also helped him maintain a place in the Harambee Stars squad, where he has featured consistently for the national team since his debut in 2021.

For Charlton, the acquisition of Sichenje represents a strategic addition. The club, which competes in England’s highly competitive second tier, has been active in strengthening its squad across all departments.

While much of Charlton’s recent transfer focus has been on youth and development players, as seen with recent academy news and contract renewals, Sichenje’s experience in senior European football offers the first-team defensive quality that manager Nathan Jones is seeking.

If the transfer is finalised, Sichenje would become one of the few Kenyan defenders to secure a move to a prominent English club, reinforcing the growing pathway for East African players into European leagues.

His physical presence and ball-playing ability are expected to add resilience and depth to Charlton’s defence as they aim for stability and potential promotion challenges in the coming seasons.

The move also underlines Vojvodina’s shrewd business model of developing young talents and reinvesting in the squad.

With the added sell-on bonus, the Serbian club stands to benefit significantly should Sichenje make an even bigger move in the future.
