Ignore rumours, development is on, Ikana assures Shinyalu residents
Shinyalu MP Fred Ikana has urged residents to ignore rumors about delays in the tarmacking of the Airstrip road to Chepsonoi, saying construction will officially start early 2026.
Ikana expressed regret for the delays but assured that everything is in order, and the contractor will begin work to make the road passable.
The 25-kilometre Kakamega Airstrip-Shinyalu-Chepsonoi road, launched by President William Ruto on October 30, 2025, is expected to boost tourism and the local economy. The road connects Kakamega town to Nandi County.
Ikana accused critics of politicizing the issue without offering solutions.
“I urge you, my people to ignore those politicians who don’t see good in me. I am working to deliver, but they are busy bringing confusion,” Ikana urged.
Residents have been complaining about the poor road condition, which has caused damage to vehicles and hindered transportation of farm produce.
In April 2025, there was a lot of commotion between residents and leaders where some took to the streets but the MP heard their grievance.
Ikana’s push made the government allocate Sh1 billion for the project, aiming to spur economic growth and reduce transport costs.
He emphasized the road’s potential to promote tourism, citing the Kakamega Forest.
“This road will ease transportation of goods people and enhance tourism in Shinyalu,” he said
