LSK Elections campaigns intensify in Western Kenya
By Porcupine Isaac.
Campaigns for the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) elections have intensified in Western Kenya as candidates step up engagements with advocates ahead of the February polls.
Leading contenders Peter Wanyama and Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama have in recent days toured the region, meeting local bar associations to outline their bids for the Society’s top office.
In Bungoma, Wanyama attended a meeting of the Bukusu Lawyers Association at Hunters Hotel, where advocates from across the county gathered. The engagement formed part of his wider regional outreach.
During the meeting, Wanyama invited Kanjama to address the forum. Kanjama briefly outlined his candidature for the LSK presidency.
In his address, Wanyama called for greater unity among lawyers in Western Kenya, saying a coordinated regional approach would strengthen their influence within the Law Society and at the national level.
Wanyama has also held similar engagements with members of the Kabras Lawyers Association in Kakamega County as part of his campaign.
The February election marks Wanyama’s second attempt at the LSK presidency, following his narrow loss to incumbent Faith Odhiambo in the previous polls.
Campaign activities are expected to intensify further as candidates continue nationwide outreach in the lead-up to the election.
