Kakamega releases KSh30m for needy learners

The County Government of Kakamega has released KSh30 Million as bursary money for needy students in the county.

The cash will go towards aiding needy students in county polytechnics in the area acquire practical skills.

Speaking during the launch of the Ward-based bursary program at Kakamega County Polytechnic, Governor Fernandes Barasa observed that the move is aimed at easing financial burden on families adding it will give young people a fair chance to gain market ready skills.

He said this was the first phase of KSh180 Million education bursary budget that will see each Ward in the area get KSh3 Million.

“Technical training remains the cornerstone of my development agenda a core mandate of devolved governments and a key driver to youth empowerment. It’s for this reason that polytechnic students were prioritized first,” said Barasa.

Next in line is the KSh150 Million in bursaries to secondary school students, he revealed, a move aimed at keeping learners in school and promote academic excellence.
