Ruto starts tour of western, Mudavadi, Wetang’ula lead reception

President William Ruto on Thursday kicked off a four-day development tour of Western Kenya, accompanied by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and a host of Western leaders, in a mission aimed at transforming the region through major infrastructure and health investments.

The Head of State began his itinerary in Butere, where he officially opened the new Butere Level Four Hospital, a modern facility expected to significantly enhance access to healthcare services and bolster the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.

Speaking during the launch, President Ruto announced the government’s commitment to provide medical equipment worth KSh150 million to the newly opened hospital. He also pledged KSh1 billion towards the completion of the Kakamega County Level Six Hospital, terming the project a “game-changer” for the region’s health sector.

The President outlined a raft of other development initiatives for Kakamega County, including KSh2.2 billion to expand electricity connections to 34,000 households, KSh2.5 billion for completion of ongoing road tarmacking projects, and KSh1.4 billion to finalize the Bukhungu Stadium construction.

Speaker Wetang’ula, who accompanied the President throughout the visit, lauded the government’s focus on tangible development and urged leaders from the Mulembe Nation to rally behind President Ruto’s second-term bid for continuity of these transformative projects.

“The President’s gesture of according the late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga a state funeral has united Kenyans across political divides and earned him admiration even among ODM supporters,” Wetang’ula observed.

The Butere event was also attended by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, host Governor Fernandes Barasa, former Kakamega Governor and CS Wycliffe Oparanya, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, and several Members of Parliament led by Hon. Tindi Mwale.
President Ruto is expected to continue his tour across Western Kenya, commissioning projects in health, infrastructure, and energy as part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s broader commitment to equitable regional development.
