New twist in Malava politics as Mudavadi makes move
The race to replace the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi has taken new direction as political heavyweights in the Western region flex their muscles.
The entry of the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has tilted the scale as more candidates are on their marks just waiting for the final whistle from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announcing the date of the by-elections
Mudavadi has moved to consolidate his grip on the region since Malulu belonged to his now defunct Amani National Congress (ANC) party.
In a meeting with clan elders from the constituency, Mudavadi declared himself the patron of the constituency as he represents their issues in government until they get a new MP.
He promised to give directions on the candidate that they should rally behind.
“Until you elect a new Member of Parliament, I stand as your Patron in Malava. We must move forward together, build on the strong foundation left by our late brother Hon Malulu Injendi, and ensure that the development agenda remains on course,” he said.
Mudavadi enjoys support in the area, and his word will have a lot of weight on who becomes the mp in the by-election that is likely to be held before the year ends.
