Tuvei rattles Malava politics, bags major support

The entry of Wilberforce Tuvei in the race to replace the late Malava Member of Parliament Malulu Injendi who died this year is a thorn in the flesh of many aspirants who had thought it would be a walk in park as they will be forced to go back to the drawing if they have to remain in the area’s politics.

Tuvei in his late 30s has hit the ground running and he is emerging as a force to reckon, with his moves sending shivers down the spine of many politicians perceived to be strong who are now burning their midnight oil to make an impact.

Born in Muting’ong’o village of Chimuche ward in Malava subcounty, Tuvei got his elementary education at Muting’ong’o Primary before proceeding for his O level at Friends School Mahira Secondary situated in South Kabras ward.

While other aspirants are struggling to get political parties to endear themselves with the electorate, for Tuvei, he believes addressing directly issues affecting the residents of Malava is a big role than party politics and that election will be based on ideas and the vision one has and believes he has the best for the people of Malava.

Tuvei, however, maintains that he won’t vie as an independent candidate but will eventually fly a party ticket but to him that is not a priority as he maintains that addressing the problems afflicting the people even at the time of campaigns is his main agenda.

He has rolled out programs among them education for needy but bright children in school where a good number of high school leaners and those in higher institutions of learning are benefitting from his pocket fees.

Also, on sporting, Tuvei has rolled out a full kits and balls for football teams across the area, and already more than ten teams have received among them Mukhonje FC, Mahira FC and Mugai FC and he believes a talent well nurtured is high paying job.

Women, youth, and Widows self-help groups have not been sidelined in his manifesto, and even before he is elected to office, Tuvei has been funding them to enable smooth running of activities.

More than 32 candidates have declared interest for the position, and the battle to get a share of of the more than 94,000 votes is in a high gear.

Clan politics can not be wished away in the area politics, and the Abashu, Abasonje and Abatovo are likely to give the next mp.

Injendi hailed from the Abasonje clan.

Tuvei enjoys support across Abashu clan, who are the majority spread across four wards of the seven in the area, and also the favourite of the young generation nicknamed Gen-Z.
