Malava rejects Beatrice Inyangala days after State House deployment

State House decision of picking Higher Education Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala as the Kenya Kwanza’s point person in the impending Malava constituency by-election has been rejected by politicians and the electorate.

The Malava residents argue that she deserted them the moment she was appointed PS.

The move that seems to be a clear move to cool the rebellion of the people over the presence of President Wiliam Ruto’s private aide Farouk Kibet in the constituency who appeared to dictate the next political move, now seems to be even more catastrophic to the ruling party.

Faruk has been holding fundraisers since Injendi died across wards asking voters to vote in a government candidate.

The residents now say they can’t accept a candidate imposed to them by Kibet even as the party continues to grow unpopular in the area every day.

Majority say Kibet is an outsider and can not give direction in the area’s politics where Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is seen as a person who should play a key role for the government.

The late MP Malulu Injendi was elected on the Amani National Congress party against the United Democratic Alliance party candidate Seth Panyako who came second after garnering 20,133 votes against Injendi who got 22,891 votes.

Dr Inyangala unsuccessful contested the Kakamega gubernatorial governorship as running mate to former senator Cleophas Malalah.

The PS is accused of ignoring calls and can only be seen in funerals of senior members of the society or when the president and his team are visiting the area.

“She has lost touch with us and she can not give us a direction on who to vote for,” said a politician who sought anonymity for fear of victimisation.

She is said to be only handing scholarships and government jobs to her immediate family members.

The position has since attracted over 30 aspirants with UDA attracting over seven candidates among them former Kivaywa High School principal Simon Kangwana who penned his resignation recently at 51 years, his Bungoma High School counterpart Enock Andanje, lawyer Leonard Shimaka, commissioner of police Nelson Shilunji and the late Malava MP’s son Rhyan Injendi.

Also, West Kabras Ward Member of County Assembly David Ndakwa, who has declared interest to replace the late who died on February 17 this year, will be seeking the party ticket.

It is not clear whether there will be nominations, but it is said that in the event of a direct ticket, Injendi and Andanje are the most favoured by State House
