Edgar Busiega defends goalkeeper Matasi over match-fixing claims

Malava parliamentary aspirant, lawyer Edgar Busiega, wants the motive behind video recordings of goalkeeper Patrick Matasi’s alleged match manipulation claims established whether it was an entrapment.
According to Busiega, the video clips could have been concocted to fix Matasi hence the need for patience as the issue is being probed by relevant authorities.
“My take on the matching fixing issue is to let it be processed in the confines of the law. He has a right to be heard and to challenge the authenticity of the clips that we have seen,” said Busiega in a statement.
He added: “Let us let the law take its full course before blaming Matasi and calling him names this early.”
Busiega is among several other aspirants seeking to fill the Malava parliamentary seat that was left vacant following the the death of area Member of Parliament Moses Malulu Injendi in February.
Matasi is embroiled in a alleged match fixing scandal that has seen him being suspended from taking part in all Football Kenya Federation (FKF) sanctioned activities over the claims for 90 days.
The move came following concerns raised by videos circulating on social media suggesting the shot stopper might have been involved in match fixing.
FKF said it had taken the step in accordance with Section VII(2) of FKF Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations (2016) adding it was working with FIFA , CAF and other relevant authorities in probing the matter.
The embattled goalkeeper is said to have been captured on a video allegedly showing him negotiating a deal to manipulate the outcome of a game.
He played for St. Georgias of Ethiopia, AFC Leopards FC, Posta Rangers and lately Police FC before moving to Kakamega Homeboyz.
