Dr Connie Lusweti’s name shakes up Kakamega Woman Rep race
The race for Kakamega County Women’s representative position is already hoting up with more than seven candidates declaring candidature to succeed incumbent Elsie Muhanda, who has declared interest for the gubernatorial position held by FCPA Fernandes Barasa
Muhanda is serving her second term after being elected into office in 2017 after an unsuccessful attempt in 2013, where she lost to Rachael Ameso.
Among those already on the campaign trail to replace Muhanda are the Kenya Ports Authority director Dr. Connie Lusweti, who is also seen as a front runner in the race.
Lusweti hails from the northern side of Kakamega county, which comprises of Malava, Lugari and Likuyani subcounties, where as it stands she is enjoying support giving her a head start.
Malava has the highest number of registered voters across the twelve subcounties, which stood at around 94,000.
Lusweti, who also has settled in Lurambi subcounty is involved in socio economic activities Among them payment of fees for bright but needy students, self help group empowerment activities among them donation of cash to run their activities and this are endearing her well with the electorates.
Helen Kumbuti, Hadija Nganyi, and Jackline Okanya are also in the race and are moving around the county to jostle for vote.
Nganyi, who was nominated to sit on the commission for revenue allocation as a member by President William Ruto, has been successful for the position two times, and this will be her third trial.
It is also not clear whether former nominated senator Naomi Shiyonga will give it a stab for the second time.
