You will suffer: Malava MP warns of dire consequences should CDF be scrapped off

Calls to have Members of Parliament to continue being in charge of the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) are gaining momentum with the lawmakers urging their constituents to back their fight.

Latest to add voice on the debate is Malava MP Malulu Injendi who has warned of dire educational hiccups if the fund is withdrawn from their management.

Injendi while delivering two brand-new school buses to PEFA Chimoroni and Friends Shamoni Secondary Schools within his constituency, said the kitty has seen a lot of learners benefit and increased the number of school-going children in Malava.

Injendi who serves in the education committee and prides himself as an educationist, warned that the move by the courts to scrap the kitty from their management as unconstitutional will not only have a negative effect on learning but will further contribute to the decline in numbers of learners too.

“We have been managing this kitty and we have done so much through it in education matters, if it is withdrawn as stated in 2026, then learning in the country will be dealt a deadly blow as it is Members of Parliament through the local administration who maps and identify those vulnerable groups fit to benefit and so far, it has been a success story,” he said.

“I know some of you are supporting the idea to have it relinquished from our grip, but I tell you, you will feel its impact once it is effected as many of you who have been beneficiaries will be left out and forced to pay from your own pockets as whoever will be given the mandate to manage it will not have the required data of beneficiaries as we do,” he warned.

He added: “This constituency allocation since inception of the county governments has bolstered education through bursary allocation to many schools and a lot of success stories have been told courtesy of the bursary allocations to bright and needy students.”

Despite the calls and ruling by courts to have it scrapped, the MP said its withdrawal from their management will see more schools and learners suffer as it is the MPs who know and understand who and who in their constituencies needs the bursary and which other area can the funds be used to develop apart from bursaries to institutions.

“Some of you who the MPs benefit a lot from the NG-CDF kitty are all wrong as it is the locals who are assisted by the kitty and its withdrawal from our management will have adverse effects,” he warned.

Injendi was addressing hundreds of residents who had turned up to witness the delivery of the brand-new buses to the schools.

In Chimoroni Secondary, the Principal commonly referred to as Vero wa Chimo embraced the bus pointing out that it had injected new ray of hope and energy to the learners especially in enabling exchange programmes for students.

In Shamoni, Samuel Kakai who is the principal assured the MP that with the coming of the bus, the school had no other obligation but work hard to improve on performance and co curriculum activities respectively.
