Bishop of Kakamega Joseph Obanyi leads church in embracing PMC
Parish fathers drawn from the vast Diocese of Kakamega have been urged to continue offering moral upbringing in young Christians within their respective churches across the County.
The Kakamega diocese leader Bishop Joseph Obanyi Sagwe while officiating the pontifical missionary childhood (PMC) drawing young faiths from the Kakamega diocese, stressed the need for discipline among the young people as part of their journey in having a good life.
Bishop Obanyi stated that many kids across the country and globe at large were undergoing difficult times in terms of food, shelter and education subjecting them to harsh living conditions pushing them away from their faith.
“Let us pray for our kids especially those from our diocese to see them achieve Gods favour and greatness, as it is our core mandate to spiritually uplift them to become responsible citizens of tomorrow,” he said.
He also insisted that good health was important in their education and performance hence they should get access to food among other necessities.
The Bishop urged the missionary children to be conversant with what the faiths stipulates in terms of discipline, noting that they are expected to be of high morals.
“This is the year of the prayer and hence I call upon you to know which types of prayers should one pray and what time as it is part of their noble upbringing as missionary kids and it is upon the parents spiritual fathers and teachers to ensure that these kids grow up religiously in accordance to our catholic faith,” he advised.
The Bishop hailed the pontifical missionary childhood (PMC) trainings that have been going on as driving the catholic agenda home as well as nurturing and nourishing the kids aged between 4 -14 years spiritually upright.
At the same time the Bishop also led in a ground-breaking event of the modern Lwanda Parish Catholic Church in Shihome under the auspices of Fr. Alex Ekodere.
“I’m delighted today to be part of this precious occasion that is giving birth to our new and state of the art church meant to serve as many faithful’s as possible and this will see our faith grow more among the locals,” he said.
The church which is contracted to Simnet Construction Company limited, is a three-year project approximated to cost between Ksh35-40 Million upon completion.
The contractor Lekha Singh confided that the project was a huge one that will also involve employment of the locals for the time it will be under construction hence putting food on the tables of many locals.
“We are committed to executing our mandate here as professionals and considering that this is a huge project, we will need as many manpower as possible with the locals being given first priority,” the contractor said.
The congregants led by the vice chairman of the development committee Lwanda parish Tom Obaire praised the leadership of the Kakamega diocese for making their long dream come true.
“We are happy and we do not know how we can thank our diocese leadership for standing with us and seeing to it that our far-fetched dream has finally materialized, this is unbelievable and we are sure by the time it is completed and operational we will have a strong follow ship as the current church has not been able to incorporate everybody at once,” Obaire noted.
