Kakamega Woman Rep dishes goodies for schools, locals
Kakamega County Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda has hit the ground running splashing goodies to schools as she sets the ground for a major political battle in the 2027 General Election.
The politician who has distributed water tanks to most schools in the county is on record of also distributing sanitary towels to primary schools to ensure that water is available to the learners.
While officiating the distribution in St Anthony Kakoyi Primary School in Malava sub county, Muhanda said she was concerned with the welfare of the pupils across the county with many girls failing to regularly attend school due to lack of menstrual pads.
She disclosed that her office through the Affirmative Action has ensured that all primary girls within the county have been awarded with eight packs to help them stay in school without worrying.
“Most schools within the county have water problems and the girls find it hard to attend school when they have their periods and many families are unable to cater for their needs and this has had an adverse effect on their education but my office has found it fit to sort them out hence our launch today,” she noted.
Muhanda who also has sponsored teen mothers back to class prides herself for taking over 600 teen mothers back to school out of which over 30 have completed university education.
She however blamed the County Government of discriminately dishing out bursary funds to selective wards which support the Governor Fernades Barasa’s administration with many being left out hence hampering the learning process of the learners.
“Through our affirmative action (NGAAF) we have supported a few but our allocations isn’t enough compared to the Ksh.4 Million set aside to each ward respectively with West Kabras and Manda Shivanga being the only two wards within the seven in Malava that have received the funds so far,” she stated.
She at the same time she sponsored over 40 learners with uniform at the school before purchasing for it a solar water pump costing at Ksh.100,000 besides training of 600 boda boda riders on proper road safety measures that will see them being qualified as drivers with valid documentation after training.
Muhanda also gave out maize seedlings to 600 farmers within the county as part of putting food on the table for
The school head teacher who was overwhelmed with the noble gesture from the MP thanked her office for considering their plights and promised that she will ensure that performance at the school is on top notch as they had the blessing of the leader.
