Lusaka Hails Ruto Move on Fuel Crisis, Rallies Western Kenya Behind President

Governor Kenneth Lusaka has lauded President William Ruto for what he termed as timely interventions aimed at cushioning Kenyans from the impact of rising fuel prices, saying the Head of State had listened to the concerns of citizens and was working to steer the country through the effects of a global fuel crisis.

Speaking today during a UDA grassroots engagement forum in Manyonyi, Lumakanda, Kakamega County, where he attended in his capacity as President Ruto’s Western Region Coordinator for the 2027 re-election campaign, Lusaka said the President’s actions would help restore stability, particularly in the transport sector.

“The President has listened to the cries of Kenyans and is working around the clock to ensure the country recovers from the fuel crisis, which is not unique to Kenya but a global challenge. Following these interventions, key sectors such as transport can now gradually return to normalcy,” Lusaka said.

The Governor, however, condemned incidents of looting and destruction of property witnessed during recent unrest, saying some individuals had exploited the situation for personal gain.

Lusaka also urged residents of Kakamega and the wider Western region to support President Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, noting that the region was already benefiting from major development projects and government investments.

“For many years, the region lagged behind in development, but today we are witnessing renewed momentum through the revival of Mumias and Nzoia sugar factories, construction of modern markets, road infrastructure, affordable housing programmes and the proposed SGR route through Mianga in Bumula, Bungoma, which has the potential to unlock economic growth,” he said.

He further challenged leaders from the Mulembe Nation to consolidate and strategically position the region to produce the country’s leadership after President Ruto’s second term in 2032.

Lusaka also called for political tolerance, condemning growing incidents of intolerance and warning leaders against tribal incitement that could threaten national cohesion.

“Leaders must refrain from divisive politics and rhetoric that could drag the country back to the painful experiences witnessed in 2007,” he said.

The Governor reaffirmed that he and other leaders would intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts across the region in support of President Ruto’s 2027 re-election campaign.

The meeting, hosted by Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, who also serves as Lusaka’s deputy in the Western regional coordination team, attracted more than 2,000 UDA grassroots delegates and leaders, among them Charles Gimose,MP Khamisi, UDA nominated Senator Consolata Wakwabubi, alongside Kakamega MCAs, and other UDA party officials.
