Kakamega Diocese Bishop in meritus Joseph Obanyi has has urged youth to vie for leadership positions in the forth coming general elections
According to Bishop Obanyi, youth leadership will come up following a massive turn out in IEBC voter registration that is ending on April 28
Presiding over the youth chaplaincy Kakamega zone at St. Anne’s Catholic parish and mobilization of IEBC voter registration he disclosed the initiative targets the youth for recognition in leadership.
He added, the exercise is seen lightly but has a greater value in future
This comes amid the 2024 Gen Z protest on Finance Bill Act, that gained momentum for the youth to rise and seek leadership posts, also casting their votes for leaders with development agendas
He encouraged youth to prioritize government programmes in the societies “Don’t think someone will work for you, create the kind of society best in transformation.” He noted
Last week during Bishop’s forum they highlighted key issues affecting the economy including the high cost of living and high prices of commodities due to escalating tension in the middle east
He accused the government on failing to implement strategies to end violence in Iran and USA arguing that measures be put in place to prevent injuries and deaths.
The move will stabilize the economy which is deteriorating following the hike in fuel prices and other essential commodities
“The government is always called upon to consider the social necessities of Kenyans and make sure they cushion them, from difficult lives.” Emphasized the Bishop
He underscored the importance of youth participating in leadership when they have voters’ cards fostering national development
