United Opposition agents of anarchy, defectors claim
Embattled United Opposition leaders have continued to criticise the outfit’s style of leadership, saying it is visionless and out to cause anarchy among Kenyans.
The leaders, who have since decamped to UDA to support its Malava candidate David Ndakwa, said the opposition totally lacked any concrete agenda with which it could challenge the broad-based government and was only thriving on sheer propaganda aimed at mudslinging President William Ruto’s administration.
While on vigorous campaigns within Malava Constituency, with only nine days left to the by-election slated for November 27, 2025, the leaders dismissed the ongoing opposition campaigns as baseless and meant to drive the Malava people in the wrong political direction, with the sole aim of frustrating and attempting to prove to Kenyans that they remained a force to reckon with.
Led by Kakamega County Deputy Governor Ayub Savula (DAP Kenya deputy party leader), Caleb Burudi (founder member, DAP Kenya), and Caleb Sunguti (Roots Party), who have since crossed over and joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), they criticised what they termed a fake and temporary political marriage within the opposition.
They said it had already resulted in squabbles and internal attacks, as the leaders were merely driven by hunger for power through the back door and lacked a true democratic vision for the country.
Savula said he saw the crumbling of the opposition from a distance and opted to cross over to the government side after realising the opposition was too divided, with each individual pushing for their own agenda and personal gain.
He added that by Malava people showing honour and respect for the President, they should vote for Ndakwa, and in return the government would increase development within Malava.
“Already the road network within Malava has been initiated, and we have launched the Ikoli–Nandi Road to connect the two counties and ease movement,” he said.
He also assured residents that the election of David Ndakwa would be transformative, saying that within 100 days Malava residents would experience a whole new level of development.
DAP Kenya founder Caleb Burudi dismissed the ongoing opposition campaigns in Malava as “dead on arrival”, pointing out that the government had the machinery to serve the people of Malava and did not need any opposition interference.
Roots Party defector Caleb Sunguti called on the electorate to make the right decision by voting in David Ndakwa as their next government MP.
Presidential aide Farouk Kibet urged constituents to stay with the government so they could reap big benefits, unlike in the opposition where, he said, they would be subjected to minimal gains.
He said Ndakwa had been tested and proven to be the perfect candidate for Malava residents. He further hinted that the united opposition was heading for defeat in the Malava by-election, as they were no match for the current government, which he said was committed to uplifting the lives of not only Malava people but Kenyans at large.
Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe said that Malava, being the immediate neighbour to Navakholo and having always been aligned with the government, should continue walking the journey together.
He added that the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi was a true friend, and that was why he was present to ensure the Malava seat remained on the government side.
