We are ready to work with new MP — Malava NG-CDF states

The Malava National Government Constituency Development Fund management has announced that it is ready to work with the new MP who will be elected by the electorate in the upcoming by-election.

Led by its fund manager, Humphrey Sechero, the team said it had no problem working with the people’s representative who shall be elected as the next Malava member of parliament.

It, however, called on the electorate to consider voting for someone who is in the government party, since the constituency under the leadership of the late Malulu Injendi was — and even before — working with the government of the day.

He said William Ruto’s government has stood with the constituency since February when the MP passed on and has continued to deliver development in honour of the fallen leader, and it will be ideal for the people to vote wisely.

Sechero stated that already they have completed 24 projects which were initiated by the CDF manager and MP, who are both deceased.

“My office has been working to ensure that those proposed projects by the office did not stall due to the demise of the two, and we have completed and handed over 24 projects and we are on course to complete a mega one which is the (KMTC) where we have completed eight classrooms and an administration block and soon the President will come to commission it and give us a charter to allow first intake in June 2026,” he said.

He said many parents have benefitted from the fund and that the move to have it scrapped will adversely affect education in the country.

“The country is having calls to remove (NG-CDF) from the MPs’ docket and it has been of great importance in constituency development and many parents can attest that the fund has really assisted them to offset their learners’ school fees countrywide.” He advised parents to make use of the fund by applying for it early so that they can be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Soon we will be rolling out public participation that will not only call on parents to visit their respective ward offices for bursary forms and apply in good time, but to also collect views from the public on which projects from their areas should be earmarked for implementation purposes in the coming financial year,” he told the public. He said bursary allocation will be given to schools within the constituency before engaging those outside.

The manager pointed out that already his office has constructed a working centre for the West Kabras DCC, which is a new divided constituency from the larger Malava, and already the administrator has been deployed and is working. He was speaking in Chemuche ward during the handing over ceremony of 13 classrooms of Mukhonje K Comprehensive School.

The head of institution (HOI), Christopher Agumba, appreciated the NG-CDF team for their commitment to renovate the classrooms that were almost being revoked by public health.

He noted that with the renovations and new outlook the learners will be motivated and will also attract more new pupils. The principal of Mukhonje K Secondary, Sophie Owenga, which is a major beneficiary of Mukhonje candidates and which has been accommodating the Grade 9 pupils from the primary section while renovations were underway, said the uplifting of the primary section was a plus to her admission next year. She hailed the CDF for its construction of a twin laboratory at her school.

The ward MCA Geoffrey Sikolia took a swipe at the county government for its selective issuance of the ward bursary funds.

He alleged that Kakamega governor Fernandez Barasa’s Ksh 180 million bursary to cater for the 60 wards within the county was being distributed selectively. “Our county bursary is out where each ward is to be given Ksh 3 million to support ECDE education, but Malava, which is the largest sub-county with seven wards, is yet to receive its Ksh 21 million despite the funds being available.”

He accused the governor of sidelining Malava in matters of development and called for a quick response as schools were warming up to close for the long holidays this end month.

Sikolia said many county projects in the sub-county, from dairy to elevating Malava to become a municipality, had remained a mirage of empty promises.

Early last week the governor announced that the county bursary funds had been received and he would be launching the disbursement in West Kabras as one way of appreciating their unwavering support during the last general election, but he is yet to do so.

The Mukhonje location chief, Stellah Mufoya, warned those sex pests on the prowl defiling young learners to stop the vice immediately as investigations have been launched to nab the culprits.

“We have individuals here who are waylaying our girls from both school on their way to school and going home; they defile and impregnate them and later take them to carry out abortion. We will find and apprehend you. We cannot let you destroy our learners,” she warned.
