PS Inyangala hails landmark academic partnership at Africa Forward Summit

As the Africa Forward Summit came to an in Nairobi, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the University of Nairobi (UON), the University of Mayotte, and INRAE.

The memorandum is set to bolster the higher education sector in Kenya.

The Principal Secretary for the State Department of Higher Education, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, was part of the team that witnessed the signing of the agreement.

The Higher Education Principal Secretary joined Éléonore Caroit in presiding over the signing of landmark cooperation agreements at the University of Nairobi, terming the move a major win for Kenya’s higher education sector and international academic collaboration.

In a side event to wrap up the two-day summit in Nairobi, she was part of the Kenyan delegation that oversaw the event on academic partnerships, innovation, and Kenya-France cooperation, bringing together senior Kenyan and French leaders, researchers, students, and private-sector partners to deepen collaboration in science, innovation, agriculture, energy, and sustainable development.

“I am particularly delighted to witness the signing and strengthening of the strategic partnerships between the University of Nairobi, the University of Mayotte, and INRAE partnerships.

This step will open up new frontiers for research, innovation, student exchange, agribusiness development, and industrial collaboration within our higher education sector,” she stated.

These arrangements will also showcase transformative initiatives supported by Agence Française de Développement, including the engineering and science complex and the pioneering industrial chair on energy, which continue to position Kenya as a continental hub for knowledge, technology, and innovation.

With Africa looking optimistically into the future, universities have been called upon to remain at the centre of driving solutions, empowering youth, strengthening global partnerships, and advancing sustainable development.

She lauded the University of Nairobi as it continues to demonstrate its leadership as a beacon of academic excellence and international cooperation in Africa.
