Top Opposition leader decamps, joins Ruto’s UDA

Kakamega Deputy Governor and DAP-K Deputy Party Leader Ayubu Savula has ditched the Opposition camp and joined the ruling UDA Party.

Speaking to journalists after having consultations with Members of Parliament drawn from Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia at Golf Hotel in Kakamega today, Savula said he cannot continue being in a party that is in opposition.

He said his decision reflects all developments that the ruling party does for Western people, including building hospitals and other infrastructures.

“I cannot stay in opposition because they have nothing to offer, and from today I am not their member,” Savula said.

However, he added that the United Democratic Alliance party has also given him a mandate to steer the grassroots mobilisation, where he will deputise Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka

Further, the governor of Bungoma, Kenneth Lusaka, criticised the opposition, saying they lack a manifesto that may unseat President Ruto.

Lusaka said the “Tawe” slogan initiated by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has no place in Western, revealing that he has been mandated by the president to mobilise votes for the UDA party amid its primaries.

The Bungoma Governor added that they will use all means, including public rallies, to sell the UDA agenda to Kenyans.

“We have agreed to popularise the UDA party in Western by all means. Opposition has no place, and we will make sure it is dead,” Lusaka said.

On the other hand, Savula acknowledged the UDA party as the only room left for Kenyans to get developments but not opposition.

He said those in opposition should not have ambitions to win the 2027 elections because they have no candidate who has the capacity to challenge William Ruto.

“The opposition is clueless; they lack the power to challenge William Ruto, and that is why you have decided to leave them,” Savula added.

Savula’s sentiments come after Kibunguchy’s burial, where he openly defended the Kenya Kwanza government, pointing fingers at his party leader, Eugene Wamalwa, saying that he has no capacity to unseat President Ruto.

Savula has been at the forefront in sabotaging the united opposition, urging them to dissolve their parties and join UDA.
