Major water projects set to boost Malava community

Water remains essential to human survival and livelihoods, playing a critical role in daily life. Climate change is increasingly affecting water availability, with rising temperatures causing concern among environmental advocacy  and prompting them to hold summits to discuss measures aimed at reducing its impact on the world.

The Kakamega County Water and Sanitation Company (KAKWASCO) held a consumer summit at the Malava Sub-county headquarters, on the theme Climate Change, Innovation and Livelihoods.

Board chairperson Boaz Ondimu Bulimu while addressing residents who attended the summit he encouraged them to plant trees regularly including in their birthday celebrations, to help protect water sources for future generations.

Emphasizing the importance of conserving natural resources, Bulimu noted that water is not manufactured and therefore requires protection.

Highlighting challenges facing the water and sanitation sector, he pointed out the existence of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Roads and the water sector aimed at protecting water pipelines while ensuring a continuous supply to consumers.

He urged residents to report incidents of vandalism, illegal water connections, destruction of meter boxes and damage to water equipment to local administrators and community ward administrators.

Malava Sub-county is set to benefit from major water projects, with its elevation to municipal status increasing demand for water. Planning is ongoing to ensure sufficient water supply and address persistent shortages among the users.

The Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency and KAKWASCO are working jointly to supply adequate water through collaboration between the national and Kakamega County government.

The Lake Victoria North water works development has 3 mojar water projects – Chemuche ward, Manda Shivanga and Butali – which are under the inspection of national governmentย

Bulimu called on residents to continue caring for the environment to mitigate the effects of climate change, while also encouraging consumers to maintain good relations with service providers to support efficient and reliable water supply.

“No factories can manufacture water for consumption, water can be found naturally so let’s safeguard water sources”
