Tim Wanyonyi tours Parklands, affirms bid for Nairobi Governor
Westlands MP Hon. Tim Wanyonyi engaged key opinion leaders from Parklands Ward in a meeting at the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI).
Bringing together leaders from diverse sectors—business, transport, sports, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and political groups—Hon. Wanyonyi addressed his long-standing commitment to serving Westlands and his ambitions for Nairobi as he sets his sights on the 2027 governorship race.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Wanyonyi expressed gratitude to Parklands for its robust support, noting, “Parklands has the largest registered voter count in Westlands, with over 37,000 voters—more than many constituencies across Kenya.”
He reflected on his journey as the MP for Westlands over the past 15 years, attributing his political maturity and readiness for a higher office to the trust and support from his constituents.
“If you elevate me to a higher position, it’s only fair, isn’t it?” he asked amid applause.
Hon. Wanyonyi went on to pledge his continued dedication to the business community in Parklands, vowing, “When I go to City Hall, I will hold ground for you. My door will be open, and you can come anytime.
Business people, you will not be harassed by anyone.” He promised to address concerns around business security and streamline relationships with law enforcement, ensuring a safe environment for a 24/7 business economy in Parklands.
As a staunch ODM supporter and loyalist to party leader Raila Odinga, Hon. Wanyonyi dispelled rumors of switching parties to vie for the Nairobi governorship in 2027, affirming, “I am in ODM, and I am not leaving. I have been here since 2005, and I intend to fight from within for the Nairobi governorship ticket.”
He described himself as one of ODM’s senior members and emphasized that the grassroots elections in Westlands would be transparent and democratic, allowing for a fair representation of interests at all levels.
Reflecting on his commitment to inclusivity, Hon. Wanyonyi underscored Parklands’ cosmopolitan nature, which has been a strength for the ward.
He commended the diverse community for setting aside tribal divisions and fostering unity, stating, “Parklands hosts several communities, including the international communities, and we see no tribalism here.”
On issues of security, Hon. Wanyonyi vowed to crack down on criminal activities, particularly targeting those selling drugs to the youth. He warned, “My message to anyone selling drugs to our young people is simple—close shop, or we will come for you.”
Additionally, he highlighted his proactive approach to establishing effective communication channels between law enforcement and local youth, stating, “We will liaise with the police to enhance relationships with young people and prevent arbitrary arrests.”
Touching on urban planning issues, Hon. Wanyonyi expressed concerns over rapid high rise building construction in Parklands, citing the lack of supporting infrastructure, especially water.
He noted that while the Nairobi County Government is responsible for issuing permits, they must also ensure the development of supporting infrastructure to sustain high-rise buildings.
He further advised leaseholders to renew their leases on time to avoid losing properties to dubious practices targeting expired leases.
Hon. Wanyonyi emphasized the importance of voter registration, particularly for the youth.
“This is the right time for our young people to apply for IDs before elections draw near,” he said, urging mobilization for mass ID applications to secure voter registration.
In closing, Hon. Wanyonyi acknowledged Parklands’ pivotal role in his political journey and reiterated his commitment to the ward as both an MP and, potentially, as Nairobi Governor.
“Thank you to Parklands voters for supporting me over the years. I am your servant, and I will complete this journey as your MP. But I invite you to join me on the journey to City Hall in 2027.”
