Kakamega residents turn against Woman Rep Elsie Muhanda, want her investigated for corruption
Kakamega County Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda is under siege from the electorate who now feel she is not best suited to replace current Governor Fernandes Barasa.
This follows recent activities that are said to have been sponsored by her.
Others who have declared interest to unseat Barasa are County Senator Dr Bonnie Khalwale and Dr. Sylvester Anami.
While indications were that electorates had started giving Muhanda a soft spot, her recent moves have caused more distractions to her candidature and campaigns and she may need to do a lot in rebranding herself in order to be accepted by the voters.
First, Muhanda has been ferrying women to her Kakamega town home and pays them Kshs.2,000 just to abuse other leaders at the county among them governor Barasa, and this has not gone down well with many.
She has also been ferrying hecklers in funerals to cheer her and jeer other leaders, disrupting peaceful funerals wherever she goes, and this has left bereaved families cursing her.
Among the known hecklers who are now marked in various areas of the county are one Violet Tande and Diana Wamalwa, both of whom works in the office of Muhanda as support staff one representing Lugari and another Malava and former Kakamega county nominated member of assembly Mildred Waluvengo.
Her work and delivery ability since the time she served under former Governor of Kakamega Wycliffe Oparanya as minister both in trade and health has come into sharp criticism as records confirmed that she presided over corruption related activities against service delivery to the people and most of proceeds from shoddy deals were used for her campaigns in 2017 which she won after a failed attempt in 2013 where Rachael Ameso won.
Her office receives over Kshs 150 million annually from National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) but no serious project have been initiated for the past seven years apart from supply of sanitary pads to some primary and old tanks to communities.
The electorate now want her office investigated against corruption activities as it is claimed she does most of the supplies through proxy at exorbitant costs, hence defrauding the public.
Oparanya is trading carefully with her after it emerged that she had been moving around, claiming that her candidature had received his blessings.
Oparanya in private has been overheard saying that Muhanda can’t be trusted to manage county resources if her past record at the county is anything to go by.
