Bungoma receives KSh59M medical equipment from USAID
Bungoma County has received medical equipment and supplies valued at Sh59 million from USAID’s Dumisha Afya initiative, aimed at enhancing healthcare services in the region.
The equipment, which includes laptops, tablets, and other medical supplies, was handed over to the county at the Bungoma County Referral Hospital.
Leading the reception were Health and Sanitation CECM Carolyne Makali, Chief Officer Dr. Magrina Mayama, Liaison and Partnership Officer Simon Mukoko, and the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Simon Kisaka.
Makali emphasised that the equipment would play a critical role in digitising healthcare facilities, easing the workload for health professionals and improving overall service delivery.
“These resources will significantly enhance the quality of care we provide to our clients,” she said.
The medical supplies and equipment are set to be distributed across various health facilities in the county.
Makali expressed gratitude to USAID Dumisha for the generous donation, noting that it would reduce the need for patients to travel long distances in search of specialized care.
Dr. Mayama praised the partnership, highlighting the program’s additional support in human resources, with over 200 healthcare workers employed across the county.
She also mentioned Dumisha’s efforts in capacity building for health workers, particularly in governance.
USAID Dumisha Afya’s Chief of Party, Dr. Everline Ashiono, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Bungoma’s healthcare system.
“We are pleased to partner with Bungoma County to ensure our clients receive quality healthcare through this donation,” she said.
The donation included 726 items such as Samsung Galaxy tablets, HP ProBooks, desktop computers, adult and paediatric weighing scales, office furniture, and solar panel installations, all aimed at improving service delivery within the county’s healthcare facilities.
